Physician Assisted Suicide Legislation Defeated

For the third straight year, the Maryland General Assembly has stopped the advancement of legislation that would legalize physician-assisted suicide in the state.  Thanks to those of you who weighed in with your state lawmakers in opposition to the bill. The bill is dead for the year and our state remains free of this dangerous practice.  The Maryland Catholic Conference was part of a broad-based coalition that worked to defeat the bill, which included disability rights advocates, mental health professionals, physicians, nurses, and senior citizen advocacy groups. Along with our coalition partners, and with your support, the Church was successful in defeating this dangerous bill that would have put countless citizens at risk. Take pride in knowing that you played an important role in upholding the dignity of all life by defeating this dangerous and predatory bill!

Winter Relief: Excerpt from Arundel House of Hope Letter to St. Mary's Parish
On behalf of Arundel House of Hope, we would like to extend our heartfelt appreciation to St. Mary's at St. John Neumann Church for hosting Winter Relief February 6-13, 2017. AHOH has a range of programs that involve volunteer participation, but none of them reach the scale of Winter Relief in engaging the community.

We recognize the effort that goes into making a difference in the lives of our homeless neighbors - from arranging transportation, preparing meals, assisting with laundry and showers, providing hosts during the evening and overnight hours, and transforming your facility into a shelter.  Due to your selflessness, over thiry homeless men and women were blessed with a warm, safe haven for the week.

Thank you for opening your doors in hospitality, opening your hearts in love, and sharing your God given gifts so freely.
