Pastoral Council
A group of 12 elected and two appointed lay members of the Parish who, with the Pastor, clergy and staff, carry forward the mission and ministry of Christ and his Church in the parish community. It is a consultative body that makes recommendations to the Pastor regarding the life and mission of the parish. As such, it encourages a network of communication within the parish and surrounding community and serves as a forum for dialogue among the parishioners, the Pastor, the clergy, and staff.

Bill Caterham- - Pastoral Council President
Bill has been a parishioner for approximately six years. He serves on the Finance Pillar as the Co-Chair with Alex Frisch. He is actively involved in the Lector Ministry and works with Religious Education Director Steve Beard hosting the Adult Enrichment talks on Sunday morning from 9 am-10 am. He is also a Sacristan at St. John Neumann. Bill is married to Karen Ann (since 1995) and they have two wonderful children, William, born 1998, Catherine, born 2000. The family lives in The Downs, just outside Annapolis. He graduated from The University of Rochester with a BA in Political Science,, he holds an MBA from the University of New York @ Buffalo, and received a CPA New York State. Bill has worked at Ernst & Ernst, Ryder System, Inc., and K. Neal International Trucks, Inc. 2002-Present. Currently, he is the Senior Vice President and General Manager of K. Neal Idealease, Inc., our leasing company. Bill teaches spinning, power weight lifting, boot camp six days a week before he goes to work! Before he and his wife started a family, he was a Triathlete.
Laurence Scipio
Laurence has been a member of St. Mary’s Parish for over 25 years. He and his wife live in Annapolis. They are the parents of two grown daughters, both of whom attended and graduated from St. Mary’s Schools. Laurence is an Urologist in private practice in Baltimore, Maryland. Laurence has a Bachelor of Science Degree from Howard University and a Medical Degree from Howard University College of Medicine in Washington, DC. He is a fourth degree member of the Knights of Columbus. He has been involved with Renew and RCIA. As a long time member of St. Mary’s, he would like to participate in nurturing and building better relationships among the many diverse groups of this parish.
William Arias
William has been a parishioner at St. Mary's for six years. He serves on the Community Pillar and represents the parish's growing Hispanic community. He's a member of the Lector ministry and Hispanic committee, and also a volunteer on Sunday religious school. William and his wife, Lorena (who supports and helps our volunteer assistance), have been happily married for over 13 years and have two young children, Ashley & Brandon, who attend Sunday's religious school and have obtained their sacraments here at St. Mary's. William currently works as a Portfolio Director for a Development company based in Alexandria,VA.

Karen Clendening
Karen joined St. Mary’s in January 2004 after moving here from D.C. She has two grown children. Karen works as a RN at AAMC. In fact, there are three generations of nurses in her family- her mother and her daughter are also RNs. She has served as a Eucharistic Minister at Mass and at AAMC with Fr Flynn's hospital ministry. For the past eight years, she has been a volunteer with the Missionaries of Charity Gift of Peace Home in DC. She is the Pillar leader of the Spiritual Committee.
Anne Marie Drew
A native Clevelander, Anne Marie has been a parishioner for 11 years. She is an English professor at USNA, where she has served as department chair and theatre director. The author of a number of books, she is a member of the Spirituality Pillar. She visits the new moms and babies at AAMC as part of the visiting Eucharistic Minister team. Mother to three grown children and nona to two adorable granddaughters, she makes a wicked spaghetti sauce.
Mitzi Gardiner
Mitzi McManus Gardiner, who serves on the financial pillar, has been a member of St. Mary’s Parish since 1998 when she converted to Catholicism. She has been actively involved in both the church and the Elementary School, serving as a Eucharistic Minister, a founding member of the St. Mary’s Women’s Group, as well as tutoring seventh and eighth grade math. Mitzi, who is married to alumnus Skip Gardiner ’85 and is the mother of two St. Mary’s students, Sam and Sarah, is a native of Lancaster, South Carolina, a graduate of Clemson University, and is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA). Her hobbies include reading and traveling to Clemson football games.
Mary Lou Howe
Mary Lou and her husband Cliff have been married for 23 years and have four children who attend St. Mary's schools. Mary Lou graduated from Catholic University in Washington D.C. with a B.S. degree in Nursing. She is currently working with an Executive Search firm and formerly worked as a nurse in the Emergency Department of the Anne Arundel Medical Center. Mary Lou has been active in the parish over the years, working extensively with Youth Ministry, Confirmation leader, moderator of Respect Life Club in the High School and CCD substitute teacher. Mary Lou would like to function as a liaison between the school community and parish, and provide assistance with the overall Parish operations.

Mike Mulhern
Mike has been a St. Mary’s parishioner for seven years. He graduated from the University of Virginia, with a bachelors degree in Commerce and a Masters in Business Administration and works as a management consultant with PricewaterhouseCoopers, specializing in the financial-services industry. Mike recently moved from chairing the financial pillar to the education pillar. He is a former member of the Church Finance Committee and Finance Council. He is currently the Pastoral Council liaison to the School Board. Mike and his wife Alison have three daughters in the St. Mary's schools and one who is a recent graduate.
Angela Nassar
Angela has been a parishioner for 21 years. She is the Chair of the Community Pillar and has worked to re-establish the Welcome Committee for our parish. She is finishing her first year of service on the PC. Angela has worked with Tupperware Brands for 20 years and enjoys the flexibility and financial freedom it allows her. She volunteers in the community with the Boys and Girls Club. Angela says she loves to serve, saying that it comes naturally to her after being raised in the restaurant business working side by side with her parents. Angela's husband of 24 years, Sam, supports her in all her volunteer efforts and she is the proud mother of four young adults, all of whom attended St. Mary’s School from Kindergarten through high school.
Diane Nicholson
Diane has been a parishioner for 34 years since 1974. She is part of the Spiritual pillar, and has been active with RCIA and hospital visitation to new mothers. She is a graduate of Loyola College (BA) and St. Mary’s Seminary (MA). She was married for 46 years to Robert Nicholson, and is recently widowed. She has three children and eight grandchildren. Professionally, she works with Springhill Center for Family Development and also does grantwriting for non-profit organizations. Diane shares, "I am a convert to Catholicism and my biggest fear coming into the Church was that I wouldn’t be able to contribute anything to the Parish or find a way to be involved. In 34 years, it’s never been a problem!"
Robert Phillips
Dr. Phillips is a Medical Director for Forensic Consultation Associates, Inc., a national firm that specializes in psychiatric consultation in civil and criminal litigation. He holds academic appointments Adjunct Associate Profession of Psychiatry at the Univ. of Md. Schools of Medicine and Law and the Yale Univ. School of Medicine. He formerly was the Director of Forensic Services for the Connecticut Dept. of Mental Health and CEO of the Whiting Forensic Institute. Dr. Phillips served as Deputy Medical Director for the American Psychiatric Association in Washington D.C. from '93-'98. Robert has been a member of St. Mary's Parish for ten years. He is a member of the lector, Eucharistic and prison ministries. Robert is a product of the Catholic education from preschool through college. Robert believes that Catholic education should be at the center of the preparation for our life's challenges. He hopes to assist the council in pursuing additional financial support for our teachers and our structural facilities.

Kathy Wagner
Kathy has been member of St. Mary's Church for 20 years. She and her husband have two children who attend St. Mary's Elementary school. She is a graduate of Temple University and worked at the National Gallery of Art organizing international exhibitions. She is currently working on the Education Pillar. Over the past 20 years, Kathy has been involved with RCIA as a sponsor, St. Vincent de Paul , and is currently a lector. Kathy enjoys cooking and playing tennis.
