Religious Education and Youth Ministry

Religious Education (Pre K - 5)

St. Mary’s Religious Education Program

St. Mary’s Religious Education Program for children in Grades Pre-Kindergarten through Five meets on Sunday mornings during the school year (September to April) from 9:00 to 10:10 AM in the Elementary and Primary School Buildings. Children and youth with special needs are also provided catechetical instruction at the same time. Children in Grade Two who have had at least one year of catechesis will be prepared for the Sacraments of Reconciliation and Eucharist. Children and youth in Grades Three or higher who have missed the Sacraments of Baptism, and/or Reconciliation/Eucharist, and who have had little or no catechesis, can be enrolled in a special Rite of Christian Initiation Program. This program introduces them to Catholicism, and prepares them to receive the Sacraments of Initiation (Baptism, Eucharist, Confirmation) and Reconciliation.

During Lent, children in Grades Three, Four, and Five are given the opportunity to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation (Confession) during class times.

Before classes begin on Sunday mornings, a Family Mass is held in Marian Hall of St. Mary’s High School from 8:00 to 8:45 AM. The priests who celebrate this liturgy prepare their homilies with the children in mind. Each of the grade levels host one of these Masses during the school year. While the children are in their classes, Adult Faith Enrichment talks are presented in Marian Hall to assist the parents in furthering their religious education. (Note: Free coffee and doughnuts are provided). Attendance at the 9:00 Mass and the Adult Faith Enrichment talks are optional.
