Spiritual Life - September 5, 2010
Family Reflections |
The Challenges of Christianity
“For who can learn the counsel of God? Or who can discern what the Lord wills? For the reasoning of mortals is worthless, and our designs are likely to fail.” (Wisdom 9:13-14)
Adult: How do you try to discover what God is asking of you?
Child: When is it hard for you to know the right thing to do? Who helps you know?

Twenty-Third Sunday in Ordinary Time |
“Do you want to be a disciple? Renounce everything else, with no reservations, no regrets.” These words are difficult for the modern believer to understand; Jesus’ words sound too harsh. After all, isn’t this the same Jesus who gave us the law of love? As Christians, we need to struggle with these hard sayings. As we reflect on these words, let us be attentive to the reminder from the book of Wisdom – we simply can’t think big enough to understand the Lord’s intentions. We need the assistance of the Holy Spirit, whose presence we acknowledge as being with us always. Let us pray for the grace to be good and faithful disciples of Jesus Christ. Jesus has confidence that we can do all things, or he would not have asked!
Is Jesus truly a priority in my life? Do I make quality time for Jesus in my daily life? |
Labor Day Mass Schedule
On Monday, September 6, the 6:45 and 8:00 a.m. Masses will be celebrated at St. Mary’s. There will be no 12:10 Mass at St. John Neumann. Both parish offices will be closed for the holiday.
RCIA Begins September 8th
Many non-Catholics want to join our Church to receive the sacraments and be closer to Jesus and to salvation. But they wonder how to accomplish all that.
The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (R.C.I.A.) is the answer. The RCIA is a great combination of prayer, weekly meetings, discussion, study and celebration for people who have never been baptized, are baptized Catholics but who want to make their First Holy Communion or Confirmation, or were baptized in another denomination and would like to learn more about the Catholic faith.
Classes are held on Wednesday evenings, beginning September 8th, in Seelos Hall at St. John Neumann Church.
Please call the rectory office at 410-990-4023 for more information or to sign up for the R.C.I.A. program. We welcome your inquiries and look forward to speaking with you.
Mass Sitting Service
Starting on September 19, there will be free Mass sitting offered during St. Mary's 10:30 am Sunday Mass. Bring your 3-5 year old child(ren) to the kindergarten classroom in the building to the left at the top of the stairs on the western edge of the Church parking lot. They will be cared for by STAND certified volunteers in an environment that fosters Catholic values, while you pray the Mass. If you have any questions, please call Anne Needham at (443) 370-4664.
Praying for the Sick
Prayer for the sick of our Parish is an important ministry, and a powerful tool to bring grace and healing to our parishioners who are ill.
Prayers are offered daily for all those on our sick list, and those names remain in the prayer basket in the priests’ chapel
In order to keep the size of the bulletin list manageable, names will remain in the bulletin for one month. However, you may extend the time by submitting another request. Thank you for your understanding.
Monday Morning Bible Sharing Begins September 13th
The Monday Morning Bible Sharing group will start again on Sept. 13 and continue till June. We’ll study the Gospel of John, using the Little Rock Scripture Study. For more information, call Chris Cable at 410-267-6621.
Taize Prayer
Need to slow down? Come rest awhile in deeply quiet Taizé prayer in the chapel at St. John Neumann (620 N. Bestgate Rd., Annapolis) on the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays of the month (September 8 and 22). We begin at 7:30 p.m. and end at 8:20. All are welcome. Call Harry Thompson (410-268-0488) or Sue Wentworth (410-349-1039) for more information.
Spend a Holy Hour with Jesus In Adoration Chapel
There is an urgent need for committed hourly adorers for the following times: Thursdays 2a.m. and 11 a.m. (every other week); Saturdays 2a.m. and 11 a.m.; Sundays 5a.m. and 9a.m.(every other week. Contact Mary Ann 410-267-6437.
Pro Life Rosary
We meet every TUESDAY at St. Mary’s Cemetery, 11:00 A.M. to pray the rosary in front of the abortion clinic on West Street. For details, call Jacquie LaRose, 410-573-0632. Parking is available at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
In Remembrance of 9/11
Prayer for America
God of our Fathers, Shepherd of Thy people, Lord of free men's souls, bless Thou our nation with a valiant, Godly spirit, with a vision to see, with the courage to try, with the power to achieve, that, marching behind Thee, Thy people shall not perish.
God, bless our America! Hear our prayer for our united peoples, grant guidance to our leaders, protection to our sons and daughters, and teach each of us Thy way of life in good will and peace. Amen.

We proclaim with evangelical spirit the Good News of Christ both to ourselves and to those of the outer community, sharing familial love with those of other credal communities.
