Admission Guidelines

Thank you for your interest in St. Mary’s Elementary School. We extend a warm welcome to you and your family. To the right you will find an admissions packet along with additional information to introduce you to our school.

Since founded by the Redemptorist Priest Community and the School Sisters of Notre Dame in 1862, St. Mary’s has been providing spiritual, intellectual, physical and social guidance to children. We are proud of our rich tradition of academic excellence within a vibrant faith community. Strong moral values integrated throughout our challenging academic program prepare our children for educational success. St. Mary’s strives to provide a curriculum which imparts both physical and academic skills combined with knowledge and attitudes that will enable our students to learn and act with self -confidence in an ever-changing world. We continually strive to identify each student’s unique talents and abilities to foster and develop a sense of individuality and interdependence as well as a realistic self concept.

St. Mary’s is a very special place. We encourage you to visit and experience our wonderful community for yourself. Opportunities to visit are available at the following times:


  • Open House in January of each year.
  • Private Tours at your convenience by appointment.
  • Shadow Days for students entering Grades 5 – 8 by appointment.


Priority Guidelines

  1. Parishioners with siblings, parishioner alumni.
  2. Parishioner.
  3. Catholic Alumni
  4. Non-parishioner Catholic with sibling.
  5. Non-parishioner Catholic.
  6. Non-Catholic with sibling.
  7. Non-Catholic Alumni
  8. Non-Catholic

*Final decisions on admissions rest with the Admissions Committees. The term "parishioner" is defined as: Any family who is a registered and regularly conributing through the use of St. Mary's Church envelopes.


Age Requirements for Admission

Students must be five years old by September 1 for entrance into Kindergarten and six years old by September 1 for entrance into 1st grade.

  1. All prospective kindergartners and first graders will be tested to prevent school failure through early identification of developmental learning deficiencies that would adversely affect their school performance.

  2. Transfer students will undergo testing prior to their admittance.

  3. Exceptions to the above guidelines will be rare. Requests for exceptions will be given serious individual consideration by the Administration. Please be advised that the birthdate requirement for entrance to St. Mary's Elementary School has changed. A child must reach the birthdate for Kindergarten and First Grade by September 1st. This new cut off date will be absolute with respect to Kindergarten and First Grade. He or she must be five years old by September 1st for entrance into Kindergarten and six years old by September 1st for entrance into First Grade.
